The filming of an internationally popular reality TV show on an island on the northern tip of Luzon is not exactly getting applause from the natives.

In fact, the villagers in Palaui Island, Cagayan, are complaining that the filming of the Survivor is disrupting their lives.

Shooting of the British version of Survivor started on May 19. Since then, the crew of the show have been preventing villagers from fishing in the areas where filming is going on, according to Isabelo Gagote, representative of the Palaui locals.

Most of the 150 families on Palaui rely on fishing for livelihood.

Gagote said a political clan in their town had allowed the foreign crew to shoot in the area without the residents’ approval.

Anthon Cruz, chief investigator of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR)-Region 2, said they will help the Palaui residents with their complaint.

Consisting of mostly forest, Palaui has long attracted local tourists.

Of the 150 families who live on the island, 30 are members of Agta tribe.

Cruz, told the locals to cooperate with the authorities concerning their complaints about the Survivor filming.
