A social worker abducted by suspected members of the terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in Basilan has been released on Thursday night, a military spokesman said.

Col. Rodrigo Gregorio, spokesman for the Western Mindanao Command, said on Friday that Jenely Luna Enpera was released by her abductors to Mayor Gulam Boy Hataman of Sumisip and Lt. Col. Leonardo Dacumos, commander of the 64th Infantry Battalion.

Her release, according to Gregorio, was made possible through the collective efforts of the local government units, the military and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
The report, however, did not say if ransom was paid for En-pera’s freedom.

Enpera was abducted on Wednesday by four suspected ASG members while inspecting some of the projects of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Ulitan Village in the municipality of Ungkaya Pukan.

The ASG is behind the spate of kidnappings of foreigners in Mindanao.

They were also believed responsible in the May 2001 kidnapping of three Americans and 17 Filipino tourists in Dos Palmas, a resort off the coast of Palawan.

The US State Department has put up a $1-million reward for the capture of ASG leader Ra-dullan Sahiron.

In February, the ASG also released Australian Warren Rodwell after payment of some P2 million in ransom.

Rodwell, who is married to a Filipina, was kidnapped by the ASG on December 5, 2011, at his house in Ipil town.

Also in February, the ASG freed the two Filipino crewmen of veteran Jordanian television reporter Baker Abdulah Atyani after more than seven months in captivity but have yet to release the Jordanian.

Atyani and his crew arrived in Jolo, Sulu, on June 11, 2012, to interview and shoot a documentary film about the Abu Sayyaf.
